That's right. We bought an Airstream. It's a 1958 Airstream Tradewind. It has a bathroom, kitchenette area, dining area, and two built-in twin beds. Well, I should say it had two built-in twins. We have totally gutted the thing this week and are in the process of fixing the rotten parts of subfloor, designing new bed/couch systems so we can sleep in the same bed, and generally removing the funk that was in there when we got it. Overall, it's a solid piece of aluminum, but there has been a lot of work to do. I think we spent a good 20+ hours this first weekend (we got it Friday afternoon) pulling out the stuff inside, fixing broken things, figuring out the plumbing and electrical systems... Now our carport is full of stuff that we have removed:
(The carport is actually even fuller now.)
There's a lot of work left to do, but we are excited to get to the fun part -- redecorating. We have some choice pieces of marmoleum to redo the counters (they are this horrible rotted formica from 1958), and plans to redo the floors (we finally finished pulling out the last of the asbestos tiles last night).
She'll be fun!
* The Bouncing Bullet is the working name for now... we figure we'll expand or change this as we start to get to know her character better...
